Medicare basics

What is a Medicare Advantage plan?

Medicare Advantage (also called Part C) is an alternative to Original Medicare. These plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare and typically combine:

  • Medicare Part A (hospital coverage)
  • Medicare Part B (medical coverage)
  • Often Part D prescription drug coverage

Many Medicare Advantage plans also include additional benefits that Original Medicare does not cover. Plan options, benefits, provider networks, and costs vary by county and ZIP code.

Plan types we can help you compare

  • HMO plans
  • PPO plans
  • Plans with drug coverage (MAPD)
  • Special Needs Plans (SNPs)

Plan availability depends on where you live. We’ll show you what’s offered in your ZIP code.
